In May 2022, 165.3 thousand people were served in Latvian tourist accommodation. of foreign* and local guests, which is 2.3 times more than in May 2021, according to the data of the Central Statistics Office. Guests spent 296 thousand in tourist accommodation. nights, which is 2.1 times more compared to May of last year.
In five months of this year, 586.8 thousand people were served in Latvian tourist accommodation. of foreign and local guests, which is 2.3 times more than the number of guests received in the first five months of 2021, and it is also 32.5% more than in the first five months of 2020. However, compared to the time before the pandemic – the first five months of 2019, there is a 36.6% drop in the number of guests served in the five months of this year.
In May 2022, 53% or 87.6 thousand of all guests served in tourist accommodations were foreign guests, which is 6.4 times more than in May 2021. The number of nights spent by foreign guests, compared to May of last year, increased 4.5 times and was 165.5 thousand. The average length of stay of foreign guests was 1.9 nights.
The most foreign guests were received from Lithuania (12.6 thousand), Estonia (10.6 thousand), Germany (9.7 thousand), the United Kingdom (6.8 thousand), Finland (4.1 thousand) , USA (3.9 thousand) and Poland (3.7 thousand).
The most foreign guests were received in Riga – 78.3%, Jurmala – 7.7% and Liepāja – 2.4%.
In May 2022, 77.7 thousand people were served in tourist accommodation. of the population of Latvia, which is 32.4% more than in May 2021. The number of nights spent by local residents was 130.6 thousand, and it has increased by 26.1% compared to May of last year.
The most popular places for Latvian residents to stay were in Riga, where 24.4% of guests stayed, Jurmala – 11.1%, Liepāja – 6.7%, Cēsu district – 6%, Sigulda district – 5.3%, Kuldīga district – 3.5 % and in Daugavpils – 3.4%.
