In less than three weeks, the cumulative 14-day incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia has doubled – in Latvia

Since October 26, the two-week cumulative incidence of Covid-19 per 100,000 population in Latvia has doubled, currently exceeding 200 cases, according to data compiled by the European Center for Disease Prevention (ECDC).

Currently in Latvia this indicator is 207.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while on October 26 this indicator was 104.59, but a week ago – on November 6 – 164.64.

Latvia’s current rate is still almost three times lower than the average of the European Union, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, which is currently 602.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

According to ECDC data, this figure is currently 166.8 cases in Estonia and 598.5 cases in Lithuania.

When calculating the number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants, it is possible to objectively compare the indicators of different countries, despite the differences in the total population, experts point out.

It has already been reported that this week Jurijs Perevoščikovs, Director of the Infectious Diseases Risk Analysis and Prevention Department of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC), pointed out that Latvia is still one of the countries with the lowest incidence in the international context. “There are not many countries left on the map,” the epidemiologist said.

455 cases of Covid-19 were reported last day, while nine patients who had been confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 died, according to data compiled by the SPC.

This is the highest number of deaths per day for Covid-19 patients.

Of all patients who died last day, three were in the 65-75 age group, two in the 75-85 age group, and three in the 85-95 age group. One deceased was in the age group of 45 to 50 years. So far, 116 people who have been confirmed infected with Covid-19 have died in Latvia.

A total of 6734 Covid-19 tests were performed last day, while the proportion of positive cases is 6.76%. The SPCC has previously explained that this figure is considered important in the European Union, as above 4%, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

To date, a total of 9,836 people have been confirmed with Covid-19 infection in Latvia, but 1,515 people have recovered from Covid-19.
