Olivier Véran is on track to save his place in government. The Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament manages to climb to the top of the first round in the 1st constituency of Isère. The neurologist by training, who won 40.5% of the vote, was ahead of the young representative of the New Popular, Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), from La France insoumise, Salomé Robin and her 36.9%. Behind, the RN candidate, Aurore Meyrieux, collected 7% of the votes cast and that of the right, Brigitte Boer, capped at 6.7%.
In this 1st constituency of Isère, the balance of power has changed in five years. In 2017, Olivier Véran, who had not gone far from a victory in the first round, had faced a right-wing candidate, Jean-Damien Mermillod-Blondin, in the second. This time, the minister will try to win next Sunday against the united left.
