In France, 55-year-olds vaccinated with AstraZeneca will receive a second dose of another vaccine – Worldwide

France said on Friday that people under the age of 55 who had received AstraZeneca (AZ) as their first dose of Covid-19 should be given a second injection from another manufacturer.

This decision will affect more than 500,000 people.

The French National Health Service (HAS) decided last month that AstraZeneca should only be given to people over the age of 55, given the extremely rare number of cases of blood clots forming in younger people after vaccination.

Officials in France initially indicated that those who received the first dose of AstraZeneca should also receive the second dose, even if they are under 55 years of age.

However, HAS has now decided that Pfizer / BioNTech or Moderna will be the second 55-year-old to receive the AstraZeneca pot first.

In France, one of the priority groups for vaccination is health professionals, which means that many young people have already received AstraZeneca vaccines.

The decision affects about 553,000 people, according to HAS.
