In Formula 1, launch a virtual championship

Liberty Media has announced the launch of the F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix with Formula 1 racers.

Virtual races will take place instead of rescheduled or canceled Grand Prix. The first stage will be held this Sunday March 22nd – the virtual Grand Prix of Bahrain in the game F1 2019 from Codemasters. The duration of the race will be 28 laps (50% of the real distance), qualification will pass before the start. All cars will be with the same settings, damage will be turned off, but you can activate the anti-lock brakes and traction control.

The start of the races is at 20.00 GMT (23.00 Moscow time). The live broadcast will take place on the official Formula 1 channels on Youtube, Twitch and Facebook. The list of participants in the virtual race in Bahrain will be published later.

In addition to Bahrain, virtual races are planned on the days of the canceled stages in Vietnam, the Netherlands, Spain and Monaco. Since there are no tracks in Hanoi and Zandvoort in the game F1 2019, the races will take place at other racetracks that are not yet named. Racers will not be awarded points, since the goal of the organizers is to provide fans with another way of entertainment without a competitive component.

F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix may be extended to June, if the Formula 1 season does not start.
