in December 1989, a confectioner from Nancy delivered chocolates to East Berlin

To the reunification of the two Germans, he then decides to offer chocolates for Christmas in East Berlin, the former capital of the German Democratic Republic (GDR).

In our edition of December 11, 1989, our colleague specifies that the confectioner had then prepared “kilos of truffles, mokas, gold dishes, liqueur filled and other sweets”. Nancy residents who wished to join the initiative were invited to make a donation “from 20 F to 200 F and more” to an account opened for the occasion, called “Friendship chocolates”.

On site, the sweets were distributed “free of charge to those who, to pay for a simple bundle, should have spent a 15-day salary.”

At the origin of this project, there is of course the confectioner, Alain Batt, even if this one initially wanted to remain discreet. But also a collaboration with two communications firms from the City of Nancy at the time.
