In Anglet, Ateliers J are extending their ranges

“We wanted to revitalize the youth area while strengthening the offer for these young people. Ateliers J are similar to five-day-a-week courses. We have supplemented them by setting up à la carte activities where teenagers can register for half a day, explains Florence Servais. We will organize activities outside the walls in the afternoon, such as an outing to the ice rink, paddle tennis in Haiz-Pean. All this, in order to work transversally with the City’s sports department. »

A plus for families

“Thus, we can accommodate twelve young people per half-day on registration. This is a plus for families, adds the head of youth service, Stéphane Lachau. Because it allows for flexibility, in the spirit of teen version leisure centres. Half-days are modeled on the price of Ateliers J, from 3.19 euros to 7 euros on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We want to propose structuring projects by creating Junior associations that we can attend on registration (1). »

This experiment is accompanied by a very visible change in the room with the appearance of a table football, a billiard table, a table tennis table, a darts board and a ” bar” – without alcohol of course – which will be run by a Junior association and decorated by the “in-house graffiti artist”, Mena.

A recruitment

An experiment which, due to the slapping of foosball or table tennis balls, led to a move to an office further away from the digital support provided by the House for all.

“To give ourselves the means for this dynamic, adds Florence Servais, we took, attached to the youth service, a young woman of 27 years old, on a work-study contract, Marie Glanes, who is preparing a DJEPS (State diploma youth of popular education and sport). »

These à la carte activities will continue on Wednesdays and Saturdays outside school holidays. The youth area will have two offers: Ateliers J courses and these à la carte activities. “We tested the approach a bit,” explains Stéphane Lachau. Three young people came to play table tennis. Eventually I found them on a sofa, binders out doing their homework. The proof that they feel good here and that one does not prevent the other! »
