Imre Kozma and posthumous István Pásztor received this year’s Esterházy award

László Kövér, the President of the Parliament, praised István Pásztor at the ceremony held in the Parliament on Friday. Hungary and Serbia can put it at the service of Hungarians and Serbs.

István Pásztor was a politician who knew that politics is not merely the art of mastering the moment, because if it were only that, then he would become “prey” of minute men for a living

– he said. He knew that politics is also the art of reconciling perspectives, i.e. the realistic reconciliation of features rooted in the past with future possibilities, he knew that without the correct recognition, instinctive intuition and reconciliation of these features and perspectives, politics does not benefit the public, nor serve the public means, but remains only an individual or small-group careerist game.

István Pásztor wanted to serve the Southern Hungarians with all his strength, and not “play with them”, he emphasized. He added: he recognized and felt precisely the characteristics of his community rooted in the past, he knew the dangers looming before his community, but he always passionately trusted in the future of his community.

He pointed out that he was a devout realist who believed that separating morality and politics from each other was not only a sin, but also a punishment itself.

As the secular leader of the Southern Hungarians, he always gave respect to others and earned respect, not only for himself, but also for his community

– he underlined.

The speaker emphasized: he never used double standards. He sincerely wished the same thing for the Serbian nation as for the Hungarian: a free, capable and cooperative national state that is able to provide security and prosperity to all national communities living in its territory and to the national identity, i.e. the mother tongue, the national culture and the homeliness of the homeland to actually ensure the right to

The President of the Parliament cited the creed of János Esterházy and described him as a statesman without a state, who said, “our sign is always the cross, and never the swastika or the hammer and sickle.” Even after being personally defeated, he became victorious in that XX. century, which the Hungarian nation tragically lost – he pointed out.

Even today, János Esterházy is a role model for all those who believe that Europe lives only as long as it lives in Christ, who believe in it and do what it takes to make Hungarianness the winner of the 21st century. century.

Thanking Bálint Pásztor – the son of the Vojvodina politician who died last year – for the award, he said: István Pásztor fought for the Hungarianness of the world every day of his life. He did it until the last day with such serenity and faith in the future, which gives everyone the strength to continue the struggle – said the current president of the VMSZ.

János Esterházy was one of the most outstanding Hungarian politicians of the twentieth century. Christian, European and Hungarian – stressed Miklós Panyi, State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, in his greeting.

He put it like this: the XX. The two great wars of the 20th century and the inhuman dictatorships that grew out of them wanted to destroy “God, nation, culture, and the European man himself.” But there were those who did not watch all this idly. Those who undertook the persecution and, if necessary, paid for it with their lives – he continued. Highlighted: Esterházy was like that too.

Miklós Panyi reminded:

Esterházy acted bravely against the dictatorial imperial ideals.

He continued: if Europe had not been torn in two by the Iron Curtain, then Esterházy would have worked to create European unity based on Christian foundations and promoting the cooperation of nations.

According to Miklós Panyi, if Esterházy were alive today, he would find that everything he fought for and gave his life for is in danger again in a liberated Europe.

“If he were alive today, he would have to stand up for Christian Europe, national sovereignty and the protection of national minorities in the same way”

– listed.

“János Esterházy was the embodiment of resistance to extremist ideas. His spiritual legacy is therefore still a compass and a source of hope,” he stated.
