Impressive hailstones fall in the Aubusson sector this Friday

The thunderstorms hit southern Creuse hard on Friday evening. Some Creusois were able to observe hailstones as big as tennis balls in front of their house northeast and southeast of Aubusson.

Hailstones 6 to 7 centimeters in diameter fell in Saint-Pardoux-le-Neuf and Saint-Alpinien according to Internet users.

Flooded cellars and degraded roofs

During the evening, the Creuse firefighters had to intervene fifteen times for flooded cellars and some degraded roofs because of the rain and hail towards Bellegarde-En-Marche. Rescuers had to cover a roof to prevent water from entering a house. The thunderstorms also caused blackouts in Aubusson. The damage remains limited, however. They did not result in rehousing. The bad weather subsided overnight. Electricity came back this morning.

Never seen

In Malleret, near Flayat. We still find the stigma of the storm this Saturday morning: “there is still hail under the roofs”, tells Jean-Marie Pinton. He has lived in the town since his birth and he has never seen that: “everything was white and downpours fell!” The houses are spared but the gardens have been ravaged : “The potatoes only have the stems, the carrots are buried and it looks like the cabbage has been shot” he says.

In Corrèze, thunderstorms led to around fifty interventions by firefighters. But the damage is not serious. Orange vigilance for thunderstorms is now lifted in Limousin.
