The jester is asleep. Rigoletto’s huge, bald clown head also dominates the Bregenz lake stage this summer, but his eyes are closed and a gentle smile plays around his lips. It seems as if the tragic Lustikus is enjoying his unplanned summer sleep. Because this year the Bregenz Festival was canceled due to the corona, it would have been the 75th. The festive days were conceived as a consolation for the gaping cultural wound. 5800 tickets were issued for the eight-day mix of opera, concerts and readings – a poorly sold lake performance, so to speak.
