Importance of HPV Vaccination for Girls and Adolescents: Free Vaccines Available

Guatemala City, September 17 (AGN). –The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) urges families to vaccinate girls and adolescents between 9 and 16 years of age against human papillomavirus (HPV).

In this sense, the health institution remembers that it makes these and other vaccines available completely free of charge. Therefore, it reminds families of the importance of protecting through health prevention.

On social networks, the MSPAS sent the following message:

Protect your future, don’t wait any longer!

If you are between 9 and 16 years old and have not yet received the HPV vaccine, do not miss this opportunity. Go with your parents to the nearest health service and request your vaccine.

The HPV vaccine application schedule consists of two doses. However, the institution encourages families to seek the dose at Health centers, since, even with one dose, girls and adolescents will have solid protection against cervical cancer.

Advances in vaccination

According to the progress reported by the MSPAS on its web portal, the vaccination schedule for minors is managed by year of birth. In this sense, the following data is displayed:

born in 2006: 91,600 have received the first dose, 55,641 the second dose 2007: 168,855 first doses, 132,972 second doses 2008: 181,326 first doses, 137,659 second doses 2009: 160,778 first doses, 106 thousand 556 second doses 2010: 140 thousand 226 first doses, 82 thousand 210 second doses 2011: 124 thousand 812 first doses, 59 thousand 615 second doses 2012: 99 thousand 296 first doses, 27 thousand 244 second doses 2013: 68 1,547 first doses, 875 second doses 2014: 24,427 first doses

Regarding age, the minors born in 2006 are those considered to be 16-17 years old and those from 2014 are the girls who can already start this vaccination since they turn 9 years old, following the vaccination age range of 9 to 16 years old. . Cervical cancer is a silent murderer, according to the Pan American Health Organization. However, it is almost completely preventable, which is why the MSPAS continues to promote these vaccines and invites the population to trust science and protect minors in time.
