IMF board to meet on Sunday to discuss future CEO in scandal

The IMF executive board will meet again on Sunday with managing director Kristalina Georgieva and a law firm that sources said has pressured World Bank staff to tweak the data in China’s favor.

A decision on Georgieva’s future is not expected until Monday, when finance ministers and other senior officials from the IMF’s 190 member countries gather in Washington for the annual fall meeting of the IMF and the World Bank.

The IMF’s executive board already discussed the matter for five hours on Friday before closing the meeting and asking for “clarifying details.”

The scandal threatens to overshadow other large-scale meetings where officials plan to discuss the global economy, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and global tax issues.
