Beyond the figures circulating, the terrible reality experienced by hospital staff members who fight to save the lives of patients with coronavirus is finally gaining value in the eyes of the populations. This Tuesday is the photo of an exhausted nurse, collapsed on his desk, which has become the symbol of the fight against this virus in Italy.
This Wednesday is another photo that turns massively on the canvas. This picture is that of another Italian nurse who shared her dismay on her Instagram account: “I am afraid and I am tired, but I continue to help,” writes Alessia Bonari, next to ‘a photo of his drawn face, marked by fatigue and especially by wearing a mask.
In two days, the publication was liked more than half a million times. In it, the young woman explains that she is afraid to go to work. It must be said that the situation is serious in Italy. More than 10,000 people are infected and the number of deaths is approaching 500. The whole country is in quarantine. “I’m afraid the mask I’m wearing is not enough and I accidentally touched my face with my dirty hands,” she wrote. “I am physically tired. The material that must protect us is of poor quality, my suit makes me sweat and, once I am dressed, I can no longer go to the toilet or drink and eat for six hours. ”
If she assures that she and her colleagues will continue, despite everything, to do everything to help the sick – because they are “in love with their work” – she cannot hide the reality: “I am also tired psychologically, just like my colleagues who have been exhausted for weeks because of this virus ”. And to conclude by launching an appeal to citizens: “What I ask of those who read this publication is not to spoil the efforts that we are making. Not to be selfish, to stay at home and to protect those who are more fragile ”.
