Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Investments Minister / Investment Coordination (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that the real reason Softbank canceled its investment in the National Capital (IKN) was because the proposal offered by Softbank was considered harmful to Indonesia. Profit only on the side of Softbank.
“Softbank has met with the president and I have participated several times. The proposals offered are profitable for him, not profitable for the country. And we don’t want to be dictated,” Bahlil said in a joint hearing with Commission VI of the RI DPR, Wednesday (14/12/2022).
Bahlil said that in the search for an investment model, his party will continue to seek investments that are fair and profitable for both parties.
“So we are looking for a fair investment model, which means investors are alive but also the country is not burdened. Win win,” he said.
Bahlil said that so far, there are already several investor countries willing to invest in IKN, including the UAE, China, several countries in Europe, Taiwan and South Korea.
Earlier in 2020, it was reported that Softbank Corp would invest US$100 billion or the equivalent of Rp1.4 trillion. in IKN. This news was given by the coordinating minister Luhut Pandjaitan.
“Because he (Masayoshi) kept pushing me, he wanted to invest nearly $100 billion. I think too good to be true”, said Luhut, quoted by CNBC Indonesia (3/11/2022).
