Ikea wants art to be accessible (and affordable) for everyone and launches a collection with some of the most relevant artists of the moment

Starting in April, in stores and on the Ikea website we will be able to find Ikea Art Event 2021, a limited edition collection of ten decorative items that the Swedish giant has created together with some of the most relevant artists of the moment: Daniel Arsham, Gelchop, Humans since 1982, Sabine Marcelis and Stefan Marx.

The intention is bring art closer to homes exploring where art and functional products meet.

“We want to show that being an artist or designer does not imply that you have to stick to one sector, you can work in various fields, and that this new movement has had a profound impact on both the design and art scene today.” commented Henrik Most, Creative Director of IKEA Art Event.

The collection presents ten home accessories designed from an artistic perspective. Ten functional works of art, as they serve to be held, placed, turned on and off. And it is that in the past it was considered that art was something that should be observed from afar in a museum or gallery, but today this idea is changing.

“Each item in this collection has a practical function and, at the same time, is a work of art. The traditional idea that art is a luxury and design is part of mass culture today has lost its relevance. The two combine fantastic, that’s where the magic happens, “says Henrik Most.

There is a wall clock (designed by Daniel Arsham), a table lamp and lantern (created by Gelchop), a vase and a blanket (by Stefan Marx), wall decoration by Humans since 1982) and decorative wall lighting ( Sabine Marcelis).

In addition, Ikea has created a package of augmented reality effects available on its Instagram that allow you to interact with the products.
