IKEA has an invisible wireless charger. You can install it in any furniture

Six years ago, the Swedish furniture giant IKEA introduced it the first line of its wireless chargers various forms – they were integrated in bedside tables, in table lamps, separately, and there was even a set for incorporating a wireless charger into any furniture.

However, this kit required a circular hole to be cut into the furniture board for installation, which was not an easy process. After six years, IKEA is coming up with a more elegant “do it yourself” solution.

IKEA Sjömärke: just “squeeze” the charger from below

The new wireless charger is called Sjömärke and can be installed under virtually any board. Compared to his older colleague, he has the advantage that it is not necessary to cut a hole in the board, just attach the charger from below, either with double-sided adhesive tape or four screws.

The installation is completely trivial, it is necessary to meet only two conditions – the board must be made of a material that does not block the magnetic field (such as wood or plastic) and its thickness must be between 8 and 22.2 millimeters.

A 180 cm long cable leads to the charger, the charger itself works in the Qi 1.2.4 standard with a maximum charging power of 5 watts. For this reason, it is a solution suitable, for example, for a bedside table, where you have to charge all night. The charger contains electronics that monitor overheating.

In addition to the double-sided adhesive tape, you will also find an X-shaped sticker in the package, which you will mark on the top of the board where you want to place the phone. It’s a pity that IKEA didn’t equip the charger with a magnetic ring to support the MagSafe function, thanks to which newer iPhones would automatically “snap” to the right place.

IKEA Sjömärke will go on sale in October this year, the price is set at $ 40 (about 870 crowns without VAT).
