“Ignitis Renewables” will, however, participate in the tender for the construction of the Lithuanian wind farm in the Baltic Sea

“According to the terms of the tender, the project will have to be implemented within eight years. This means that the investment schedule will potentially not coincide with the realization of the first offshore wind park project in Lithuania, which, in the event of a successful tender, will allow the financial success of both projects,” informed “Ignitis Renewables”.

In December, the Law on Renewable Energy was amended, which provides for an extension of the deadline for obtaining a building permit from three to four years, and from six to eight years for obtaining an electricity production permit.

“Ignitis Renewables” assured that it would be able to implement the project alone, but in case of winning the tender, it would look for a partner.

It has already been announced that “Ignitis Renewables” together with strategic partner “Ocean Winds” was confirmed as the winner of the procurement tender announced by Lithuania for the construction of the country’s first wind farm in the Baltic Sea.

In July, “Ignitis Group” announced that it is the preliminary winner of the tender and, together with one of the world’s leading developers of offshore wind farms, “Ocean Winds”, offered to pay 20 million euros as a state fee for the right to develop a wind farm.

Unlike Lithuania’s first offshore wind farm, which has to be developed without state support, the winner of the second auction will not need to carry out the research of the offshore area and other measures necessary for the construction of the infrastructure, nor will he have to prepare his own environmental impact assessment.

The initial capacity of the planned second wind farm will be at least 20 MW per turbine, but the total number of turbines will not exceed 90. The highest point of the wind turbine wing will not exceed 350 meters and the maximum size of the rotor diameter will be up to 320 meters.

The wind farm is planned to be built in the Baltic Sea at a distance of 29.5 – 33.7 kilometers from the coastline.

Both wind farms could provide half of Lithuania’s current electricity consumption.
