IG Metall day of action.

Frankfurt am Main – IG Metall is getting involved in the ongoing coalition negotiations with a nationwide day of action. At rallies, demonstrations and other public events all over Germany, trade unionists are demanding massive investments in modern infrastructure and future technologies from the future federal government, avoiding layoffs in the transformation process, a sustainable perspective for sustainable local jobs instead of relocations abroad and a Qualification campaign and secure training. Another central demand is that public future investments amounting to 500 billion euros will be needed by 2030. The necessary investments must be borne by solidarity financing.

To emphasize these demands, go on Friday, October 29th, Tens of thousands of metal workers took to the streets in more than 50 cities, including Berlin, under the motto “Fair Change – Social, Ecological, Democratic”. The rally takes place in the capital from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the government district between the Reichstag building and Paul-Löbe-Haus. More than 900 metal workers are expected here. Jörg Hofmann, first chairman of IG Metall: “It takes billions of dollars to invest in sustainable products and production processes in order to reduce CO2 emissions and advance digitalization. For us, it is crucial that people are kept in focus: There is a need for considerable future investments in qualifications, the chance for a second training and resilient bridges to the new world of work – for example through a transformation short-time work allowance. We say: Change has to be fair. And this requires security for the employees and a fair distribution of the burden. “

The day of action is part of a two-week “European action for a just structural change” under the motto “Just Transition” of the umbrella organization of European industrial unions, IndustriAll Europe, in which member organizations across the continent participate.

Public events take place here, among others:

  • Already at 28.10.: Augsburg, 9 p.m .: Central campaign of all Augsburg companies in front of MAN Energy Solutions. Projection of our demands on a large MAN building. Rally with Jürgen Kerner, executive board member of IG Metall.
  • Already at 28.10.: Salzgitter, 12:30 p.m .: rally (at gate 1 of Salzgitter AG, Eisenhüttenstraße 99) with Stephan Weil, Prime Minister Lower Saxony and Hans-Jürgen Urban executive board member of the IG.
  • Munich, 10 a.m .: Opening rallies in front of the Bavarian party headquarters of the SPD, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, FDP and CSU. From there, four demonstration trains lead on foot, by bike and by car to the joint rally on Odeonsplatz, which starts at 12 noon.
  • Schweinfurt, 9 a.m .: Demonstration to the Hahnenhügel Bridge. The rally begins there at 10 o’clock, among other things Ralf Kutzner, executive board member of IG Metall.
  • Stuttgart, from 2.30 p.m. demonstration parade from the main train station to the Stadtgarten, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. rally in the Stadtgarten (Keplerstraße 7, 70174 Stuttgart).
  • Koblenz, 11.55 a.m.: Demonstration train from the train station, rally at the Deutsches Eck.

  • Völklingen: 5.30 p.m. start of the demonstration parade from Hindenbrugplatz, 7 p.m. rally on the parking lot of the world cultural heritage site Tobias Hans, Prime Minister Saarland.

  • Hamburg: Bicycle demo, start: 10.30 a.m. from the union building, Besenbinderhof 60; 11.55 am rally on the Hamburg fish market, including Christiane Benner, Second chairman IG Metall and Dr. Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of Hamburg.
  • Bremen, 12 noon: Three parallel rallies at Mercedes Benz, Airbus Operations and ArcelorMittal, which are interconnected via video stream, including Kristina Vogt, Bremen Senator for Economic Affairs.
