If you have one of these cars you are in trouble

The deadline for stopping the sale of petrol and diesel cars has been identified in 2035. But how many cars are already “outlawed”

For months we have been recording the diktats arriving from Brussels. The automotive market has substantially aligned (or, perhaps, resigned) to the intransigence of Europe, which has set the limit year for the abandonment of internal combustion engines in 2035.

For months, in fact, 2035 has been identified as the deadline for stopping the sale of petrol and diesel cars. The European Commission does not give up its line contained in the “Fit for 55” climate reform package. After the initial resistance, the car manufacturers are making the best of a bad situation. And it is a continuation of announcements about the conversion, about new models coming. Sometimes even with dates in advance of the times pleasing to Europe.

A policy, that of the EU, aimed at giving a “green turn” to combat the objective environmental decay that our planet is having. But there are cars that cannot be driven today. Other than 2035!

As we know, Europe is now “in charge”. And the Member States can only adapt. Many, therefore, are introducing very stringent traffic restrictions for different types of cars. Here, then, are what we could consider almost “outlawed”.

The “outlaw” cars

Euro 2 diesel cars are those that have been registered since 1996 and that are over 25 years of age. The Euro 1, on the other hand, are those registered starting from January 1, 1993, while the Euro 0 are all those prior to 1993. In all these cases, the big cities have already expressed themselves, prohibiting their circulation.

In most large cities, in fact, they are substantiallyand diesel cars with a lower homologation class, up to Euro 3, banned in big cities (for example Rome, Milan and Turin) already from 2018 are banned. There is, for a little while longer, a little more tolerance on Euro 4which are the cars registered starting from January 1, 2005. But to “save” them was, for now, the Covid-19 pandemic that has slowed down many decisions already made.

Euro 5 diesel cars are those registered starting from 1 September 2009. They should remain allowed until October 2025. But, as we have learned to discover, things really change on these issues very quickly and without warning. .

Different speech on Euro 6 cars. As we know, this category includes cars registered starting from 1 September 2015. Throughout this calendar year, there should be no major limitations to this type of vehicle, but each city will be able to manage its own territory as it sees fit. In Milan, for example, it will be forbidden to enter Area B starting from 1 October 2024 for all cars purchased after 31.12.2018.
