“If I can do it, you can too!”

Long Island. The corona virus is particularly dangerous for the elderly. But there is also positive news: 90-year-old grandmother Anna Fortunato survived a severe form of Covid-19 infection. As AP reported, Fortunato from Long Island, New York, was recovered from the hospital after 13 days of recovery.

Just a cold

Fortunato suffered from asthma before the infection. When she contracted the virus, she initially thought it was a cold. “I have a sore throat, but it’s just a cold,” Fortunato told her daughter Teresa Gund on the phone at the time. “I’ll be fine.” But the symptoms got worse and she had to be hospitalized from her retirement home. As a last resort, the doctors gave her the malaria drug, although it is not yet certain whether this drug will work at all.

Message to other infected people: “Keep fighting”

After some time, Fortunato felt better, according to the AP, whether it was the malaria medication or not, she doesn’t know. After 13 days, she was released from the hospital. Fortunato and her family are now in quarantine separately. Fortunato has a message for other infected people: “Keep fighting, have a positive attitude and pray,” Fortunato told AP. “And get up. Don’t stay in bed all the time. And I want to tell you: ‘If I can do it, you can do it too!’ ”

Her positive attitude did not change even after the illness. “I had a good husband and my children are great,” said Fortunato, who will be 91 in June. “I saw grandchildren and great-grandchildren, so I’m happy.”
