He welcomes Martin Dúbravka’s decision to accept the famous Manchester United offer and wishes him from the bottom of his heart. Former national team goalkeeper Ján Mucha Jr. also points out that the 33-year-old goalkeeper deserves enormous respect, as footballers from our region have double difficulties in the “big leagues”.

All done! Martin Dúbravka will leave Newcastle permanently for Manchester United

Only the final details and hosting remain Martin Dubravka in one of the biggest football teams in the world it will surely become a reality. It is even more special for a Slovakian footballer, as players from the “smaller countries”, in this case from Slovakia, have a lot of difficulty.

In an interview for SPORT.sk the 39-year-old said Jan Mucha Jr., who has also worked in the English Premier League in the past, but his journey between the three poles of Everton has been quite difficult. However, the former national team goalkeeper believes that Martin Dúbravka has made a good move and that MŠK pupil Žilina will certainly not be without a chance at Old Trafford.

With a different passport, your location would be different. But he made a good decision

Martin Dúbravka will become Manchester United’s new reinforcement. What do you think?

“It is a great success for Maťa as a person and obviously also for the Slovak goalkeeper school. Just like me, or other Slovak goalkeepers who have shown themselves abroad in good light, this is just proof that Slovakia is doing a great job with the goalkeepers. We definitely have quality in this position. I wish my mother the best from the bottom of my heart and can honestly say that I am not at all surprised that she is going to Manchester United. ”

How come?

“I have said in the past that he has what it takes to be in the door of a big club someday. Plus, he is the perfect age, so he will definitely still be valid. Newcastle have arguably the richest owner in football, but the Man United is Man United and just being able to say he was at Old Trafford is a big deal, sure, it won’t be easy, which I can honestly say.

On the other hand, what I must also say, if he had a passport other than the Slovak one, he might be in a different location. Because what he has already shown in the English Premier League and how much he has given for Newcastle … If he had, say, an English, American, French or any other passport, it would have been much easier for him. Maybe Newcastle wouldn’t even involve Nick Pope.

That’s why it’s harder for us than others, and that’s exactly how it is in football. Newcastle fell into the hands of wealthy owners, they brought in a great English goalkeeper, and that’s why Maťo had to make a decision. ”

His position should be no different at Man United than Newcastle. Do you think he made the right decision?

“I think he will have more chances there, because personally I don’t like David De Gea in recent seasons, which is why I think he is certainly not without possibilities. It is the right decision. He is 33 years old, he is an experienced goalkeeper and he already has got something in the Premier League and doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone.

Transfers to Manchester United don’t happen every day, and certainly not in the case of Slovak players. We also have Marek Rodák in the competition, I’ve worked on it too, but it’s not an everyday thing at all, especially not when Manchester United are looking for Slovak. That’s why I’m not surprised at Maťa at all, since he’s going to go to one of the best and biggest clubs in the world.

Sure, in recent years they are more of a back seat, but historically it’s a huge global brand. When I worked at Everton, they were still managed by Sir Alex Ferguson and we know very well what he did with the club. After his departure they had their problems, many coaches were changed and too much money was wasted.

I believe that now they could be on the right path and I am happy that Maťo can be there. I also believe that the loan can result in a definitive transfer and over time he will be able to appear in some European competition. ”

It’s not ideal for the national team, but he believes it will change

It is also a great advertisement for the Slovak goalkeeper school, don’t you agree?

“It is clearly and definitely necessary to stress this, because I know the conditions under which goalkeepers and goalkeeping coaches work in Slovakia and how this position works abroad. Coincidentally, my son also played as a goalkeeper in the academy of the Manchester United, so I can relate.

It is incomparable to what we have in Slovakia. It is also a paradox that in England they have always had problems with goalkeepers because every boy wanted to be Wayne Rooney or Harry Kane and not be in the top three. On the contrary, we have a high quality school of goalkeepers and we don’t know at all how to properly appreciate it. ”

What do you mean exactly?

“Finance and conditions. We cannot afford quality goalkeeper coaches, yet our children are able to reach the best football leagues in Europe. Hats off to Maťa Dúbravko, where he managed to snatch it from this little Slovakia. We know. what we all went through. We were born in Slovakia and nobody gave us anything for free. That’s why Maťa and the other kids deserve a lot of respect. ”

Hope it’s not like Ferrari. Ján Mucha has a tip for Calzona: if …

From the point of view of the Slovak national team, we ended up in a difficult position in the position of goalkeeper. Marek Rodák has lost his position of unity in Fulham and Martin Dúbravka in Newcastle, while he will fight with De Gea in Man United. Among the last nominees, we still have František Plach, Dominik Takáč and Dominik Holec, who capture, but the pair of long-term units, paradoxically operating in a prestigious championship, do not capture. What do you think?

“It’s definitely not good news and we can’t look at it positively. We also need to figure out which clubs we have our goalkeepers in. They’re great clubs. But yeah, it’s not ideal. I experienced it firsthand when I was at Everton and I never overtook Tim Howard. For this reason, I myself gave up for a period of representation, because I did not feel up to it and had no match experience.

It’s not optimal when you don’t have space and then go to the national team. You simply lack quality matches. There are advantages and disadvantages, this is football. Well, anything can happen in it. Maťo will not go to Manchester as a one hundred percent unit and will have to fight hard for the chance of him.

Fortunately, in the national team it is practically nothing, as we have completely messed up our situation in the League of Nations. We will see how it will be with our goalkeepers before the start of the qualification. I think it will get better. ‘
