IDR 75,000 in denominations, can you use it for transactions?

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Bank Indonesia (BI) last year issued the 75th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (UPK 75 Years of RI) or special money in the Rp 75,000 denomination.

Until now, the public can still exchange the Rp. 75,000 special edition in all BI offices and bank office networks.

Then, what IDR 75,000 in denominations can be used for transactions?

BI through their official Instagram account, @bank_indonesia also emphasized that Rp. 75,000 was a legal means of payment. So that people should not hesitate to use the money as a means of transactions in the country.

“Rupiah that has not been withdrawn from circulation, without exception # UPK75RI is a legal means of payment. So don’t hesitate to use it as a transaction tool in the Republic of Indonesia. Hmm, #SobatRuntung knows the rules of the game for rejecting Rupiah as a transaction tool?” Wrote BI. in the official Instagram account as quoted by Kompas.com, Saturday (1/5/2021).

BI also explained, in Article 23 paragraph (1) of Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency, it is explained that every person is prohibited from refusing to accept rupiah, the delivery of which is intended as payment.

Article 33 paragraph (2) of the regulation emphasizes that every person who refuses to accept rupiah can be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of one year and a maximum fine of Rp. 200 million.

New money exchange for Eid 2021

For the new special edition currency exchange of IDR 75,000, the public can do this by ordering in advance through the PINTAR exchange application (https://pintar.bi.go.id).

Requirements for money exchange are enough to use 1 KTP to exchange a maximum of 100 pieces UPK 75 RI everyday. The redemption can also be repeated every following day.

Meanwhile, for the exchange of new money for Lebaran 2021, BI has prepared cash of Rp. 152.14 trillion. This number increased by 39.33 percent (yoy) when compared to last year’s Rp.109.20 trillion.

BI has synergized with banks in adding exchange service outlets to 4,608 bank office networks by 2021.

This figure increased by 23 percent compared to last year, namely 3,742 branch offices or commercial bank outlets. Locations that open new money exchange services include 439 offices in the Jabodebek area, and 4,169 outside the Jabodebek area.

The public can get exchange services at these locations from April 12 to May 11, 2021.
