Votes after the match (source: RTVS):

Tomáš Tatar, forward and captain of the Slovak Republic: “I am very proud of the gentlemen. The militancy we showed was fantastic. Experience decided. The Finns backed up at 0: 2 and still played the same. They repeat it around. Thanks to experience, they will not let go, they can create pressure, score a goal and decide. I want to highlight every single player on our team for the dedication and fighting spirit we have shown. We were not so far from showing something absolutely exceptional. We are sorry, but every Slovak fan had to enjoy our match.

The experience the boys have gained in the tournament can postpone the national team for many years. I hope the guys get as high as possible in the draft and their dream of getting into the NHL comes true. In a few years, Slovakia will have a really strong team. I am very glad that I came and helped and could be with the Slovaks in the locker room again. Wearing a jersey and representing Slovakia at such a tournament is always something special. ”

Peter Čerešňák, defender of the Slovak Republic: “It was a balanced match with a sad ending for us. Unfortunately. I don’t think we were a worse team. We managed to get in the lead, but the Finns turned it around. We pushed, we tried to create something, but we didn’t succeed. We are sorry because we wanted to move on. We knew they would be waiting for us in the middle zone. When they started the attack, we wanted to be as attached to them as possible so that they would not have so many options. We wanted to catch the pucks as fast as possible so that we could turn the game around and go to the fortress again. We managed to do it many times, but in the end we could not endanger the gate.

On the defensive, we wanted to break down players well, communicate, turn pucks quickly and get out of the band with as few recordings as possible. It was the same with the transition to attack. I think we played well. Too bad only the result. We have improved with each match. At the beginning, some meetings didn’t work out for us, but we played well with the end of the basic part approaching. Also in the quarterfinals. There’s a young bunch of people here. The longer we were together, the more we understood on the ice. It is a great pity that we did not succeed.

Juraj Slafkovský, forward SR: “We won 2-0, but we couldn’t keep up. Finland is a very good opponent. It was a balanced game. Many people may not have expected this, but I think we kept up with them. They scored more goals, so is hockey. Our game was good at the beginning of the match. We flew on them, which we wanted. The Finns know how to play hockey, yet they are Olympic winners. It is one of the best teams in the world, so it was to be expected that they would not let us and so it ended.

It was difficult. They were waiting for us on the red line, you can’t play against it. No one has come up with anything better yet. It may look ugly, but it’s effective. I enjoyed every minute with Tomáš Tatar and Michal Krištof. They are good players. He gave me a lot. Nevertheless, he came from the NHL, in which I suspect he played 800 games. Maybe one of the few in the tournament. I’m just glad I had this opportunity at the age of eighteen. ”

Adam Sýkora, forward and scorer of the first goal of the Slovak Republic (ČT Šport): “It’s a pity of the goal at the end of the first period, because we had a very good initial 20 minutes. We already knew before the match that the Finns guard the middle zone very well and are waiting for breaks. It was important not to lose pucks in this area. I rate the tournament very positively, because I didn’t think at all that I would get so much space and not at all that I would be able to score. It’s a big deal for me.

I really enjoyed today’s match. Too bad we couldn’t bring him to a successful end. That would be an even greater experience for me. We have the youngest team in the tournament, but we still need to work on ourselves, because that doesn’t mean anything yet. We have to work on ourselves as before and I believe that success will come. ”

Pavol Regenda, forward and scorer of the second goal of the Slovak Republic: “It simply came to our notice then. We tactically prepared for them and in the beginning we managed to score goals. We played a level game with them throughout the match, but we made a few mistakes. We can’t make such hesitations against a team like the Finns, because that’s exactly what they were waiting for. They have punished everything, they know how to change every chance. A few mistakes happened to us today. We knew what kind of system they played and that they occupied the middle band.

We said we had to get the pucks down. We had a good movement and we also pushed into the gate. It was the same with the goals. Adam Sýkora had a run in the air, I arrived. We knew what applied to them and how to apply to them. We tried, we put everything into it. We played the whole match.

The Finns have an unreal team. I’ve had enough and probably the other guys. Finns skate unbelievably, their style is about ‘riding’. They have it bloated. They defended us, backed up, gathered pucks and launched counterattacks. We had a great job doing the second youngest team at the World Cup. We made it to the quarterfinals and how we played in it was a demonstration of how we want to play hockey. We must evaluate the result positively. The opponent’s players are experienced hockey players. There is something to build on in our team in the future.
