Montreal and Toronto will face a Game 7 in the first round of the NHL play-offs, following the Canadiens’ overtime victory over the Maple Leafs on Saturday. For its part, Boston has started its second round well, largely beating the New York Islanders.

What suspense in the Canadian series between Montreal and Toronto! The Canadiens, fourth in the regular season, pushed the first Maple Leafs to Game 7 with a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday in front of 2,500 spectators. The score was 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play, but everything was packed in the final third. Montreal thought maybe they had done the hard part by leading 2-0 in less than two minutes thanks to Corey Perry (46th) and Tyler Toffoli (47th). But Toronto managed to equalize thanks to Jason Spezza (52nd) and TJ Brodie (57th). It was therefore necessary to play an overtime, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi donned the hero’s costume for Montreal by scoring after 15’15 of overtime. to send the two teams into a Game 7 in Toronto (behind closed doors) on Monday. Carey Price (Montreal) finished the game with 41 saves, including 13 in overtime, and Jack Campbell (Toronto) made 28 saves.

Boston starts well

While the first round is not yet complete in the North Division, the second kicked off Saturday in the East Division, with Boston (third in the regular season) winning at home in front of 17,400 spectators over the New York Islanders (fourth ) 5-2. The scoreboard was 2-2 at the end of the second period, after goals from David Pastrnak (20th and 32nd) for the Bruins, and Anthony Beauvillier (12th) and Adam Pelech (33rd) for the Islanders. But the Massachusetts players stepped on the accelerator in the final third, with a goal from Charles McAvoy in the 47th, then Pastrnak’s third goal in the 56th, and that of Taylor Hall two minutes from time.
