Inter Milan’s new full-back, Robin Gosens, has revealed that he has turned down a high-value contract offered by Premier League riches Newcastle United.
Gosens finally chose to move to Inter Milan. The 27-year-old was signed for €25 million [pinjam 12 bulan plus opsi pembelian] from Atalanta.
The player has signed a permanent contract until June 2026. At Inter, he will receive a salary of €2.5 million per season plus bonuses.
“I was offered a contract by Newcastle, but I turned it down. I thought it would jeopardize my goals in this sport,” Gosens told Kicker, Monday (7/2).
However, Gosens admitted that he was attracted by Newcastle’s offer, given the potential long-term financial benefits that he would pocket.
“I think it’s very human to think about it,” said Gosens.
“If you can earn multiple times for the same job at different clubs, show me someone who just says ‘No thanks’,” said the German.
“It’s not just about me, I might be able to secure the next few generations of my family with money [dari Newcastle] that,” he concluded.
Gosens is likely to make his Inter debut in the match against Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals at the Meazza, Wednesday (9/2) early morning WIB.
Newcastle spent more than £90m to sign Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn in January. While Matt Target is on loan from Aston Villa.
