Juhani Palmu’s health has improved, even though the situation looked inconsolable at first.

Last week, the artist was admitted to the hospital in critical condition Juhani Palmu79, made it back home today, Friday.

He has been treated at the bed ward of the Lapua Health Center. Palmu was diagnosed with heart failure and pneumonia, which is why fluid and mucus were removed from the lungs.

Palmu answers the phone with a calm but strong voice considering the situation.

– Hello, hello, Juhani here, we’re at home. I’m really happy to get home and get through it.

He describes the trip to the hospital as really tough.

– It was a rough trip and quite an ordeal. I thought it was time to go, because even the doctors were very uncertain about how I was doing.

When asked how Juhan’s pains were compared to the pains caused by burns, he says that the situation was much worse now.

– The pains were severe, I was really sick, I was afraid I was going to die, these pains can’t even be compared to the previous ones. Fortunately, I survived once again.

Juhania was waiting at home Leila– along with his wife, Susu-kissa with five kittens. It drew Juhan’s mouth into a smile.

– Everyone was there, it felt really good. Now we calm down and just be together.

“Sleepless nights”

Thanks to the treatment, Palmu’s blood values have also improved. The artist’s wife, Leila Palmu, is full of happiness thanks to her husband’s return home.

– It feels incredible, Juhani was still fighting for his life a few days ago. This is a complete miracle, I was already completely sure that he will not come home again. Fortunately, he still had days to live, says Leila, her voice trembling.

Juhani’s hospital stay was very difficult for Leila.

– Sleepless nights are over. The worst part was the huge worry about what was going to happen. During that time, I dreaded every phone call, because I was afraid I would hear bad news from the hospital.

He says he is humbled and grateful for the extra time they get to spend together.

Important support

Although there is now reason to be happy in Kauhavan’s Alahärmä, Leila is not planning any more special celebrations in honor of Juhan’s homecoming.

– The main thing is that we can finally be together in peace. I am so happy that he is still here, because Juhani has always been the biggest support for me, as well as the other way around.

Leila also remembers Juhan’s support over the years regarding business operations.

– Even though I have received all kinds of ideas and thoughts, he has always supported and encouraged me. Without him, my entrepreneurial path would have been much rockier. Luckily he’s still here.

The litter born this week by Palmuje’s funny cat brings extra joy to the homecoming.

– Hassu made five puppies. Funny is specifically Juhan’s cat, it always sleeps with him, so I think it is also very happy to come to Juhan’s home.

Bad burns

Over the years, Juhani has had tough headwinds in terms of health.

Palmu has bladder cancer, for which the next examinations are on February 23.

He had to have the fingers of his left hand amputated due to burns. In addition, his left leg has been amputated above the knee.

The burns occurred in 2021 when the air mattress of Palmu’s electric bed caught fire. Fortunately for the artist, there were close friends who saved him from the flames. However, Palmu’s condition was very serious, and his heart stopped twice during the treatment.

Palmu had a very serious accident in 2017 as well. He had to have nine of his toes amputated due to burns. At that time, the newspaper lit by the candle caught fire on Palmu’s pants in the couple’s previous home.

Long life together

Juhani and Leila have been together for a long time. Love has meant a lot to the artist.

– After all, 78 years is a long time, a lot of life has been lived. At the same time, I am really happy that I have Leila, yesterday Thursday we turned eighteen years married, Juhani said to Iltalehte in his birthday interview in 2022.

However, the setbacks have not discouraged the artist.

– I think everything has a purpose. Although the trials have been tough, I try to see the positive in things, Palmu said in December 2022.

The passion for art has remained despite health problems.

– I want to paint more things related to the Old Testament. I’m not going to give up in the future.
