“I think we can already speak of a community circulation, unfortunately,” says Borba

Taking into account the increase in positive cases of COVID-19 that was reflected in the latest epidemiological reports, the Minister of Health, Julio Borba, said that it is necessary “to take the situation with great caution.” Given this, from the health portfolio they urge to apply vaccines and respect health measures.

Borba expressed in a television program the concern of the health authorities about the increase in positive cases registered in recent days, as well as the large number of tests that are being carried out, since that means that there are many people who are with respiratory symptoms.

In this sense, on Thursday, of 4,462 samples processed, 1,021 tested positive, according to the report from the Ministry of Health. In this regard, the minister indicated that approximately 50% of these cases would already be the new omicron variant, of which it is assumed that there is already a community circulation in the country. Also, the report of the last day of 2021 stated that of 4,975 samples, 903 were positive.

“I believe that we can already speak of a community circulation, unfortunately. The same thing happened in all the countries and it became the predominant one in a short time ”, he highlighted.

He assured that this moment of the pandemic must be taken with great caution. “In the regional context, Argentina had a jump from 6,000 to 43,000 positive cases from one day to the next, just like we went from 300 to more than 1,000 cases. We are worried ”, highlighted Borba.

On the occasion, he asked to “take with a grain of salt” the version that the omicron variant is supposedly more contagious but less lethal, since in Paraguay there are more than a million people who do not have even a dose of anti-COVID vaccine, which exposes them to any variant of the virus.

“I am still concerned about this unvaccinated population, which is almost a million people. In other countries it is being seen that most of the internees and serious cases are of people who did not receive the vaccines ”, he pointed out.
