Al-Sudani’s post came after the Iraqi parliament elected Abdul Latif Rashid president of Iraq during a session held today.

In turn, the head of the provisional government, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, congratulated Al-Sudani for having entrusted him with forming the new government.

Al-Kazemi called on political forces to collaborate with Sudanese Shiites in the task of forming the government of Iraq.

The United States also expressed aspiration to partner with new President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani.

Meanwhile, the French embassy in Iraq has called for the formation of a government that responds to the demands of the people, expressing its willingness to collaborate with the designated prime minister, Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani.

Interestingly, Iraq has witnessed, since last year, a violent political crisis between the Sadrist movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr and the “Coordination Framework” (which includes the Rule of Law coalition led by Nuri al-Sadr).
