“I prepare my body for rest.” Mairis Briedis talks about plans for the near and distant future – Martial arts – Apollo.lv – Sports

The deer not only became the IBF champion, but also won the trophy named after Muhammad Ali and the champion belt in the evaluation of the already mentioned magazine “The Ring”.

The deer did not hide that the Cuban representative Juniel Dorticos, who was defeated in the World Boxing Super Series final, was a dangerous opponent, so the goal was to stay focused throughout the 12 rounds and not allow the Cuban to use his strongest weapon – a right-handed blow.

“That’s why sometimes we didn’t hit with the left straight shot, because we were very focused on his right hand. The main thing is that we finished the fight without injuries. It was long and hard to wait for this fight,” Briedis did not hide.

The best boxer in Latvia has already returned home, but the rules stipulate that a 10-day quarantine must be observed, so the celebrations of the greatest success of his career will be missed for the time being. Only team members and family members may meet the boxer.

However, Briedis pointed out that in any case, his plans did not include big celebrations and rest immediately after the fight – they will follow when he goes to Turkey with his family.

“Over the next two weeks [pēc cīņas] I do not immediately go straight to rest. I prepare my body for rest. I didn’t stop training right away. For the next two weeks I will spend light training in Riga. Then I will go to Turkey and enjoy the rest, “said the Deer.” After returning home, I will have to go through a 10-day quarantine again. “

After a well-deserved rest, the 35-year-old Briedis will have to think seriously about the next stage of his career. Previously, he did not hide that he allowed the opportunity to move to the heavyweight division, which was also discussed by the organizer of the World Boxing Super Series, Kalle Zauerlands, who is also a Latvian boxer promoter.

“It’s entirely in the hands of my manager and promoter,” said Briedis. “Let’s see what the options are, I’ll consult with my coach and family and then evaluate what’s best for me. Don’t think you’re going to get rid of me (laughs), I’m striving for new achievements.”

He pointed out that he had previously struggled with heavyweights. It happened during the “Bigger’s Better” tournament and in Russia against the German representative Manuel Charles.
