“I needed to make decisions, to work differently” – GP Inside

Johann Zarco took advantage of the presentation of the Prima Pramac Racing 2023 team to provide an update on several subjects, in particular the fact that he no longer works with Jean-Michel Bayle and Romain Guillot. He also explained how the arrival of Gino Borsoi, another novelty this season, could boost the Italian team.

New season and separation with Jean-Michel Bayle and Romain Guillot: “I feel good, I’m trying to learn from the last two years and always be as ready as possible during the winter. I made some changes to try to be better. I needed to make decisions, to try to work differently and I was able to learn a lot. Now I have to put all of these things, what I’ve been able to learn, together to perform. These changes were also to train in a better way, to have a better physical shape and approach to the races, because we also know that in 2023 we will have two races per weekend. It will be difficult and I want to face them as best I can. »

The new Grand Prix format: “Clearly, the work that will be done on Friday will be very important. I think it already was with just one race per weekend, but there we will have a little less time to relax, we will have to perform directly because we will have to be on the front row in qualifying and have a good start. Some drivers are good at this exercise and I think it will also be a good way to understand what you need for the long race on Sunday. »

The upcoming Sepang test: “As we saw in Valencia, in the test following the Grand Prix, the things that will change a lot on the bike concerning the fins, the aerodynamics, that’s where Ducati can perhaps play the most. We will have to confirm things tested in Valencia. Sepang will be a test, but more of a confirmation of what we tried in Valencia. With Jorge (Martin) n ready to try, we don’t know what yet but we will have time to find out in Malaysia. »

Gino Borsoi nouveau team-manager : “I was able to discover Gino in Valencia last year, when he started working after the GP, and during the winter, in particular how he was able to reorganize the team a bit to sort out what was a bit difficult in 2022. Also better prepare the team and the mechanics, because the two races per weekend will not only be difficult for the pilots, but also for the mechanics. When you come from a team that was always fighting for the championship, you’re used to being on top and want to stay there, and I think Gino can transmit that spirit to everyone. When you pass that on to 20 people, you create good energy. »
