“I do not understand the choice of the French”, the militants of the RN in Dijon struck by the result

The second round of presidential elections took place on Sunday 24 April. In Dijon, the Côte-d’Or activists of the National Rally spent the evening of the ballot in a restaurant in the city. The disappointment was general at the announcement of the result.

At the headquarters of the Rassemblement National de Côte-d’Or, Sunday evening at 8 p.m., the revelation of the name of Emmanuel Macron as the new President of the Republic was greeted like a cold shower by the militants of the Rassemblement National

When the result was announced (E.Macron 58.5% – M.Le Pen 41.5%) an activist did not hide her disappointment: “I do not understand the choice of the French, we spent 5 years with a president who despises the people, who did nothing for us, who did not know how to hear, who saw people take to the streets, who did not listen to them.”

Another quote: “the score is better than in 2017, but completely disappointed. The French did not understand anything.”

The activists are already considering the continuation, and the ballot of the legislative elections: “We are going to fight for the legislative elections, so that Mr. Macron does not have the majority in the National Assembly”

This is the third time that Marine Le Pen has represented the Rassemblement National by standing for the presidential election. This third failure does not appear to the activists of Côte-d’Or as a personal problem. An activist is convinced: “With her, she’s honestly the best! We can see that she’s even higher than 5 years ago. In 5 years, if it’s not ours, who’s it?”

As for the candidate of the National Rally, René Lioret, departmental delegate of the RN of Côte-d’Or, believes that it should not be changed: “Marine Le Pen is the very good candidate, she has proven it. We buried her a thousand times, as she said. We gave her the loser, we even gave her away from the second round. She won against Eric Zemmour, she won against Valérie Pécresse, she won against Jean-Luc Mélenchon, I don’t see today who could be the best candidate or better candidate than her”.

The departmental delegate of the party notes that the historic result of this presidential election makes it possible to maintain hope: “we are progressing from 8 to 9 points, that means we will come to power […] and here we want to influence this government a lot. Why not in the legislative elections, take the government? It’s not out of reach either.”

The legislative elections therefore remain a source of hope for the National Rally: on Sunday evening, Marine Le Pen came out on top in 5 of the 15 constituencies in the region.
