Hyundai Motor Company Avante’North American Car of the Year’ Award… “Excellent design and performance”

Hyundai Avante (U.S. local name Elantra). Hyundai Motor Company-Hyundai Motor Company’s representative semi-mid-sized sedan Avante (U.S. Elantra) was selected as the ‘2021 North American Car of the Year’ in the passenger car category.

North America Car of the Year is an event to select the best cars by dividing cars released every year into three categories in the US and Canada, which are considered the biggest battlegrounds in the global automobile market. Hyundai Motor Group, whose three models were nominated for the final nominations this year, received the award for the third consecutive year with the 7th Generation Avante Award.

At the ‘2021 North America Car of the Year’ online awards ceremony held on the 11th (local time), Avante, Genesis G80, and Nissan Centra were nominated as finalists in the passenger car category.

The organizers said, “The Avante is a popular vehicle in the sedan line. The innovative design applying the parametric dynamics theme, cutting-edge convenience specifications such as digital keys, and fuel economy were highly appreciated.” The North American Car of the Year, which started in 1994 and is called the’Academy Awards’ of the automobile industry, is selected by the vote of the US and Canadian automobile professional reporters. The 7th generation Avante was first unveiled in Los Angeles, USA in March last year. The dynamic design with a clear character line was evaluated as impressive. In the United States, sales have slowed somewhat due to the contraction of the automobile market due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), but in Korea, sales increased by more than 40% from 62,000 units in 2019 to 87,000 units last year. Avante’s North American Car of the Year award is the second time after 2012. Only two models have been awarded more than once since the award was established in 1994, the Chevrolet Corvette and the Honda Civic. Hyundai Motors said, “Avante, one of the representative models of semi-mid-sized sedans, has become one of the most recognized vehicles in the world.” With this award, Hyundai Motor Company produced the fifth award-winning model since’Genesis (BH)’ in 2009. Last year, Kia Motors won an award for the’Telluride’, a large sports utility vehicle (SUV) that was launched for the North American market. It was the first Kia Motors award.

This year, domestic cars produced the most final candidates following last year. Avante and Genesis G80 in the passenger car division were named, and the Genesis GV80 was nominated in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) division. On the other hand, Japanese brands have not been awarded an award for the third consecutive year. An official from Hyundai Motors expected, “Avante, who has confirmed that he is the strongest semi-mid-sized model in the US, will show a greater role in the global market with this award.

Kia Motors SUV Sorento was selected as the’Large SUV of the Year’ at the ‘2021 What Car Awards’ in the UK on the 11th (local time). The What Car Awards, which celebrated its 44th year this year, is an automotive awards ceremony hosted by the British automotive media, “Wat Car”. Kia Motors has won awards for the fourth consecutive year, starting with the Pecanto (City Car of the Year) in 2018.
