This contribution of 1,250 megawatts (MW) of clean energy should gradually replace, from 2025, fossil fuels which currently account for more than 85% of the region’s electricity supply.

“The objectives remain objectives. What I want are results, ”said Andrew Cuomo’s successor, in justification.

The Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) project involves the construction of a transmission line 545 km long between the Canada-US border and New York City. Some 1,400 jobs are expected to be created during construction, mostly in the United States.

New York State is taking a bold step towards decarbonization,” says Hydro-Québec President and CEO Sophie Brochu. By moving forward with the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) project, it will begin to reduce its GHG emissions from 2025 and put in place the necessary infrastructure to support the production of renewable energy on its territory, while ensuring that local communities reap direct benefits. ”
