Hwang Sun-woo (Seoul Sports High School) is making a strong start at the men’s freestyle 200m final at the 2020 national management contest held at the Gimcheon indoor swimming pool in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk on the afternoon of the 19th. Union

Korean swimmers have finally become the first international swimmers federation (FINA) accredited world record holder for both seniors and juniors.

Hwang Sun-woo (18, Seoul Chego), a high school student who emerged as the hope of swimming in Korea, is the protagonist of a new history.

According to the Korea Swimming Federation on the 27th, FINA sent a letter to the Federation the day before, saying,’We have finished reviewing the supporting documents related to Hwang Seon-woo’s men’s freestyle 200m record’, saying,’As of the 26th, it is officially recognized as the World Junior Record.’

FINA added that’official certificates are sent by mail.’

The Korea Swimming Federation plans to deliver the certificate to Hwang Sun-woo once it is received.

Hwang Sun-woo won the men’s freestyle 200m final at the 2020 National Management Team Competition held at the Gimcheon indoor swimming pool on November 19 last year with a record of 1 minute 45 seconds 92.

It was not close to the Korean record (1:44:80) that Park Tae-hwan set when he won the gold medal at the Guangzhou Asian Games in November 2010, but it was a world junior record.

Elijah Winnington (Australia) cut the previous record (1:46:13) set at 18 at the McDonald’s Queensland Championship in December 2018 by 0.21 seconds.

The Federation later submitted a request for record authorization to FINA with necessary documents such as a confirmation of the negative doping test result.

FINA finally delivered the official news to the Federation two months after the record was established, and at the same time added Hwang Seon-woo’s name as a long course (50m) men’s 200m world junior record holder on the website.

With FINA’s official recognition, Hwang Sun-woo became the first Korean swimmer to hold the world junior record.

In Korea, there was no player with a FINA-approved world record in the senior and junior, long and short course (25m) categories.

To motivate prospects, FINA has compiled and managed world junior records for male and female swimmers under the age of 18 since March 2014. Union
