Hungary announced on Friday that it would close its borders again in September due to fears of a new outbreak of Covid-19.

“From September 1, foreign citizens will be barred from entering the territory of Hungary,” said Gergel Gulash, the head of the chancellery of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
“The epidemiological classification of countries has been abandoned. Hungary is green, all other countries have turned red,” Goulash told reporters, adding that in most cases the sources of infection are found abroad.
He also said that Hungarian citizens would be allowed to return from abroad if they presented two recent negative Covid-19 tests, or agreed to 14 days of self-isolation.
Goulash added that the government would later name other exceptions that would not be covered by the entry ban, such as diplomats.
Initially, the borders will be closed for a month.
