Hungarian Grand Prix: Lance Stroll finishes at the foot of the podium

Quebecer Lance Stroll led an error-free race to finish on the podium on Sunday at the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix on Sunday in Budapest.

Taking the start in third place, behind the two Mercedes, Stroll lost the advantage during the first salvo of pit stops against Max Verstappen (Red Bull). The latter finished second, behind Lewis Hamilton, but ahead of Valtteri Bottas.

It was the second best result in Stroll’s career, matching his performance at the German Grand Prix last year. He climbed on the third step of the podium at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2017.

Verstappen opportunist

The start of the race took place on a soggy track due to morning showers in Budapest. Very skilful in these conditions, Verstappen took the opportunity to quickly go up to second position. He started from seventh position.

Stuck behind Stroll at the third echelon after a few laps, he passed his Canadian opponent by switching to dry track tires later than this one.

The Dutchman, however, almost did not start for this race since he lost control of his car while going to the starting grid. Damaging its suspension and spoiler, it was able to participate in the race thanks to the good work of its mechanics.

Alexander Albon (Red Bull), Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), Sergio Perez (Racing Point), Daniel Ricciardo (Renault), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and Carlos Sainz fils (McLaren) completed the top 10.

With this victory, Hamilton took first place in the driver classification with 63 points, 5 more than his teammate Bottas. Verstappen is third, with 33 points. Stroll is eighth (18 points).

The next race will be the British Grand Prix on August 2.
