“Humberto Maier sets new lap record to claim first pole position in WorldSSP300”

The Tissot-Superpole WorldSSP300 Round Prosecoo DOC de Catalunya was interrupted by a red flag, but Humberto Maier (Yamaha MS Racing/AD78 Latin America Team) managed to claim pole position by setting a new lap record in Barcelona. This is his first pole position in WorldSSP300, although due to a penalty he will start from the back of the grid.

RECORD, FIRST LINES: Rebounds galore!

The session was red flagged due to irresponsible driving minutes into the session. The drivers were called to assemble in the pitlane, but the clock continued to tick. The session resumed seven minutes from the end. Maier clocked 1:55.169, shattering the Superpole record set by Alvaro Diaz last year. Fenton Seabright (Kawasaki GP Project), who set the second fastest time half a second behind Maier, will start from first position. Jose Luis Perez Gonzalez (Accolade Smrz Racing) took third place in Superpole despite falling late in the session with Matteo Vannucci (AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha) at turn 5.

BEST RESULTS: New faces ahead

Alessandro Zanca (Team#109 Kawasaki) continued his excellent Catalunya Round by taking fourth on the grid, although he will be promoted to the front row of Race 1 due to Maier’s penalty, while Galang Hendra Pratama (Sublime Racing by MS Racing), back in WorldSSP3000, took fifth place. The Indonesian returns to WorldSSP300 for the first time since 2019. Alongside Zanca and Hendra Pratama on the second row is 2020 Champion Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki). Hendra Pratama and Buis both clocked 1’56.000, but Hendra Pratama will start ahead thanks to a second fastest time.

SPECTACULAR SESSION: The rookies impress

Vannucci will line up in seventh despite crashing at Turn 5 with Perez Gonzalez, although he will start from sixth position in Race 1. He will be alongside Daniel Mogeda (Kawasaki GP Project) who inherited from eighth place. The Mexican Juan Pablo Uriostegui (Team #109 Kawasaki) continued his excellent weekend by taking ninth place ahead of Raffaele Tragni (AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha) who signed his first Top 10 in Superpole.
