The incident appears to be accidental, but that does not detract from the terrible drama that took place in Sevry (Beauraing) earlier this week. As our colleagues in L’Avenir report, Hugo, just 12 years old, was alone at home when he decided to fetch his father’s firearm, which was normally kept in a locked cabinet. For some reason, the child grabbed it and it looks like the shot went away on its own, killing Hugo.
Marc Lejeune, the burgomaster of Beauraing, reports that it was a “tragic domestic accident”, and that the rescuers could not do anything.
According to the Namur prosecutor’s office, the autopsy carried out seems to exclude any intervention by a third party in this terrible news story. Homework is in progress.
