How to use Quick Note on iPad

Apple unveiled iPadOS 15 at its Global Developer Conference (WWDC). Even though the feature set with iPadOS 15 does not take full advantage of the iPad Pro (2021) with M1 chip, there are still some great features that all iPad users can use, including Quick Note, as long as you have an Apple Pencil or alternative stylus.

Here’s how to use Quick Note on iPad with iPadOS 15 Developer Beta.

Apple occasionally offers updates to iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS as closed developer previews or public beta releases. While beta releases contain new features, they also contain pre-release bugs that may prevent normal use of your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, or Mac, and are not intended for everyday use on a main device. That’s why we strongly recommend that you stay away from developer previews unless you need them for software development, and use public beta versions with caution. If you depend on your devices, wait for the final version.

How to make Quick Note appear on iPadOS 15

Keep in mind that Quick Note can only be invoked at any time and in any app, with a first generation Apple Pencil, a second generation Apple Pencil, or an Apple Pencil alternative like the ZAGG Pro Stylus. It won’t work if you try to use your finger.

  1. Using your Apple Pencil or ** another stylus **, slip the point inward from the lower right corner of your iPad screen. You’ll see a small gray box start to appear – make sure it’s fully extended and opaque before you let go of the tip.
  2. Once Quick note is expanded, you can write or draw in the box with your stylus or switch to the keyboard to type. You can change your drawing tool with the button in the lower right corner, just like you would in a regular note.
  3. When you’re done with your quick note, tap Made to save it, or you can simply slide it away – it records automatically.

How to quickly save links, text and images in Safari with Quick Note

One of the coolest things about Quick Note is that it uses intelligence to detect when you are using it in Safari. This lets you quickly save links to your quick note, and you can even highlight text and images in Safari to add them to your note.

  1. Bring up Quick note using the above method.
  2. Lancer Safari on your iPad.
  3. When you are on a web page, in the Quick notefaucet Add a link to save the current page link in your note.
  4. If you want to add text or images to the note, use your stylus or finger to highlight whatever you want on the web page.
  5. On the Contextual menu that appears, press Add to quick note. Doing this adds the link automatically.
  6. Tap Made on Quick Note to save it.

How to bring up Quick Note with an external keyboard

If you’re using an external Bluetooth keyboard or something like the Magic Keyboard for iPad, you can bring up Quick Note without even having to touch the screen.

  1. Anywhere on your iPad, tap the globe key and Q on your external keyboard.

A quick note will appear in the lower right corner as if you were using an Apple Pencil. Apple also says that you can technically bring up Quick Note by swiping your finger up from the lower right corner, but I personally haven’t been able to verify that yet – only with a stylus.

How to view your saved quick notes

Quick Notes are saved separately in their own folder in your Notes application. Here’s how to visualize them.

  1. Lancer Remarks on your iPad.
  2. Tap Quick Notes in the List of files.

That’s it! From there, you can move the notes around as you see fit, edit them, delete them, and pretty much whatever else you need to do with a regular note you’ve created.

You can also use Quick Note with Safari in macOS 12 Monterey. However, if you are wondering about iOS 15, you will only be able to edit existing Quick Notes and not add new ones.
