Severance pay is a social benefit to which every worker who has an employment contract is entitled. They are equivalent to one month’s salary for each year of service or proportional to the time worked.

Workers can use the severance pay to purchase or remodel their home, for their studies, those of their spouse, children and stepchildren; the purchase of shares of public entities, purchase of a policy for educational insurance, opening of a Contractual Voluntary Savings account (AVC) or for subsistence due to termination of the employment contract.

Keep in mind that the requirements to request the withdrawal of severance pay in Porvenir for the education of children, spouses or permanent partners vary – Colprensa credit.

To request the withdrawal of severance pay for education, Porvenir has enabled a 100% virtual option in which you must:

• Enter the affiliate transactional area, for which you must be registered and click on the option Request the withdrawal of your unemployment benefits.
• Fill out your data and enter “education” as a withdrawal request.
• Send a copy of the university payment receipt or certificate from the institution to [email protected]. This must include the name of the student, academic program, tuition fee and semester to be taken.

To take diplomas or foreign language courses, Porvenir requires that the educational program be endorsed by the State – credit Colpresa

For higher education programs with credit with ICETEX: Attach the account statement issued by ICETEX or the account transaction that reflects the name of the student, value of the debt or the amount to be paid.

For diplomas and foreign language courses: Certificate from the educational entity, stating that the diploma or language course is a requirement for your higher education degree and is endorsed by the Ministry of Education.

For non-formal education, Work and Human Development: Approval resolution indicating that it is an education entity for “Work and Human Development”; Within this resolution, the program to be taken must be authorized, in accordance with the enrollment order.

You must also attach the following documents, if the withdrawal is for:

• Spouse: Copy of marriage registration.
• Permanent partner: original sworn statement specifying the time of cohabitation, this must be equal to or greater than two years.
• Child: copy of the civil birth registration.

For programmed savings or educational insurance:

• Copy of the contract signed and/or the insurance policy signed with the entity.
• The corresponding civil records or extrajudicial statements, as appropriate
• Certificate of existence and representation of the entity with which you contracted the programmed or educational savings.
• Copy of the invoice and/or the collection account or any document that substitutes for the entity with which you contracted the programmed or educational savings for higher education, as appropriate.

To pay for higher education programs with severance pay, Porvenir and some universities have agreements with banks such as ACH and Bancolombia – Universidad del Rosario credit

Porvenir makes the payment of severance pay by requesting the account where it wants the amount to be deposited. You can do it from the fund’s web portal itself or through the customer service line for payment by check at Banco de Bogotá, from a cell phone at #857 or by calling the landline 601 7447678 in Bogotá.

Another option is through the Reval offices available in Bogotá, Chía, Facatativá and 20 other cities in Colombia.

For the following universities, payment can be made in ACH to the bank account of the same institution:

• Incap Learning Institute.
• Santiago de Cali University.
• University Corporation God’s Minute.
• University Corporation of Catalonia.
• Pontifical Bolivarian University.
