How to Install Mods in Baldur’s Gate 3: Complete Tutorial

One of the most awaited games by RPG fans has finally come out of early access and hit stores: Baldur’s Gate 3. Developed by Larian studio, the same as Divinity Original Sinthe game uses current mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), being able to enjoy the matches alone or in online multiplayer mode.

But we know that sometimes it’s not enough for the game to be good: in many cases, the experience gets even better when we tinker here and there, installing modifications that can improve the gameplay and make everything more fun. If you’re the type that doesn’t miss the opportunity to install mods, here’s our humble tutorial showing you how to install mods Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to install mods in Baldur’s Gate 3?

If you started to play Baldur’s Gate 3, mas think that the EXP received is too low or want to play with a character from another game, for example, know that such issues can be resolved with the use of modifications. Next, we’ll show you how to install mods on the RPG that have been the talk of the last few days.

1. Download Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager

With the game installed on your PC or notebook, download the Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager. This program is basically a mod manager that will make installation and use easier.

Just click on the link below, which will redirect you to the GitHub website, and download the ZIP file. Then, using a program like WinRar, you must unzip the file, extracting its contents in any folder. We recommend that you leave the manager in an easily accessible location or in the same folder where you store the downloaded mods.

2. Download the BG3 mod you want to install

Go to your favorite game mod hosting and distribution site and download the file you want to install in your game. O Nexus Mods is usually a good option, with a wide range of modifications available for many games, including the recently released Baldur’s Gate 3.

It’s important that you keep your files organized, so keep all the mods you download in the same folder. You can, for example, create a folder dedicated to this with the game’s installation files, as in the image below. Remembering that you only need the PAK files, so you don’t need to unzip anything else in the mod’s ZIP or RAR.

3. Keep your profile public in Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager

Go to the folder where Mod Manager was unzipped and open the program. Make sure your profile is marked “public” in the mod manager, like in the image below.

If your profile has another option selected, such as “private”, click on this option and change it to “public”. Your profile must be set to public to install mods.

4. Activate the modification

Still in the modifications manager, you will notice that the screen is divided into two sectors: one on the left, where the active mods are; and one on the right, with the inactive modifications. For the changes to take effect in your game, you need to activate the downloaded modifications. To do this, just click, hold and drag the inactive mod from right to left, in the assets area, as in the image below.

Remember that it’s not enough to download the mod, you need to activate it, so this step is essential! If you want to deactivate any modification, just do the opposite process, dragging from left to right.

5. Export the mod to the game

Gone are the days when it was complicated to install mods. We are almost at the final stage and all that was required, besides downloading the modifications, was to keep everything organized and drag a file around. Once that’s done, just click on the “export” button to export everything to the game and enjoy the changes provided by the downloaded files.

In addition to making your life a lot easier when installing a modification, the Mod Manager also helps you to reduce the risk of messing up some configuration of the game’s installation. There’s no reason to do it manually if the program automates almost everything, right?

6. Confirm installation status

After clicking on “export”, the whole thing will roll without the need for your intervention. Just wait for the process to complete. But you need to pay attention to one thing: the status of the installation.

As seen in the image above, correctly installing a mod will result in a green icon. This is confirmation that you did everything right and the downloaded mod should be working correctly on your copy of BG3. If the icon appears in another color, redo all the steps above very carefully.
