How to get a vaccine and not a virus? Mumbai doctor’s video on steps to take during jab goes viral

With Covid-19 positive cases reaching 1,730,647, resulting in 1,95,119 deaths in India, only 140.9 million doses of vaccine have been administered to date. With India having recorded the second highest number of average daily deaths (2,165) through April 2021 globally, vaccine seekers have started to crowd centers and hospitals. As new government guidelines have made everyone over 18 eligible for vaccination, increasing queues at hospitals have become a matter of concern. Authorities fear that overcrowding could lead to super-spread events and could further spread the disease. Recently a video of a doctor from Mumbai, Dr Tushar Shah has been touring the internet.

The video shared by Twitter deals with Zucker Doctor showing “how to get vaccinated and not the virus when you visit the vaccination center”. The video shows Dr Shah holding signs and advising on precautions to take when going to vaccination centers and avoiding contracting the coronavirus in crowded places like these.

He begins by emphasizing the importance of wearing a mask. He urged people to ensure safety by wearing double masks – N-95 on the inside and tissue / surgical on the outside. As the infection spreads from the hands touching the eyes, nose and face, he advised wearing gloves to prevent the hands from touching the face. He urged people to refrain from shaking hands with others. He also stressed the importance of using disinfectant, even on gloved hands. In the end, he suggested not talking to others while standing in the queue.

DrShah also said that gloves are not a must have, but for people who have a habit of constantly touching their face, it is best to wear them. “Plus, I see almost everyone touching the outside surface of their mask that needs to stop,” he wrote.

He also advised people to hydrate and have a cup of tea and coffee before going to the vaccination center. “Do not take food / water when standing in the queues or at the vaccination center. Don’t take off your mask if you’re taking a photo, ”he said.

The viral video received over 107k views and over 7,000 likes. People appreciated Dr Shah’s efforts and found them useful.
