How to adjust the valves of the car for optimal performance

From now on you should know how to adjust the valve of the car. The function of the valve of the car itself is to regulate the intake of air and fuel, so you need to know how to adjust it. Why, this car maintenance aims to keep the engine performance stable and maximum.

The valve itself in the car is also known as a valve or valve, which we will find on the engine, including the cylinder head. It turns out that improper and unsuitable valve adjustment can cause various kinds of problems. So what are the steps?

How to adjust the valve of the car with a simple method

The valve aka auto valve is a component that is located on the cylinder head of the vehicle. While its function is to regulate the inlet and outlet of the flow of fuel and air into the car.

This valve or valve will also play a very important role, because if a leak occurs it can cause a decrease in engine power. Well, things like that are often complained about by vehicle users.

So it is important that you know how to adjust the right car valve to avoid leaks. There are in fact two types of valves for cars, namely: Inlet valve (IN) then Exhaust valve (EX) whose functions are also different.

Usually valve problems like this often occur in older types of four-wheeled vehicles, so they require special adjustments. While this problem rarely occurs in today’s car types, unfortunately many people don’t know when the car’s valve has a problem.

Warm up the car, then turn the crankshaft

The way to adjust the valve of the car is actually different, like again a different 4 cylinder setting a 6 cylinder car. However, in our discussion this time around, we will discuss simple tricks for adjusting the valve in general that are easy and practical.

First warm up the car for 5 minutes to adapt the engine to the existing specifications according to the manufacturer’s standards. Then remove the cylinder head cover with the wrench or washer you provided earlier.

Make sure there are no other disturbing parts, such as the air filter housing and hoses, when removing the cylinder head cover. If so, immediately turn the crankshaft to the right to number 0.

If you have done this method, follow the next steps below.

Determination of the TDC / TOP position of the compression cylinder

The next way to adjust the car’s valve is to determine the TMA / TOP position of the compression cylinder 1 and 4. When turning the crankshaft, don’t forget to pay attention to which cylinder’s intake valve will move.

Then you can move the crankshaft pulley of the engine and see the intake valves on cylinders 1 and 4. If both valves move, it means that you cannot adjust the valve, because it is at the end of the exhaust stroke and at the beginning of the suction stroke.

Meanwhile, if the two moving valves will be on cylinder 4, it means the engine is in TOP 1. Meanwhile, another way to determine the TMA / TOP position is to check the push rod.

Well, when the valve is in an unpressurized or closed condition, the push rod is not depressed so it can move. However, if you see the movable push rod in cylinder 2, then this cylinder is in the TOP 1 position.

Tightening the cylinder head bolt

How to adjust the car valve, the next step is to tighten the cylinder head bolt. If you have the TOP 1 or 4 position on the cylinder, simply tighten the bolts.

It is also very important at this stage to ensure support for the valve impact rod and rocker arm. Because when you tighten the cylinder head bolt, you shouldn’t do it carelessly.

Make sure that the valve mash support bolts must have a torque of 1.8-2.4 kg-m. Meanwhile, the cylinder head bolt must also be at a moment of 5.4-6.6 kg-m.

When the valve adjustment is completely finished, the next thing to do is tighten the retaining nut while holding the adjustment bolt. Don’t forget to check the car’s valve again by feeling the pull of the feeler gauge.

There are several ways to adjust the valve of the car as before, perhaps you already know and understand. So, in order for the vehicle to remain optimal, it is important to make special adjustments. Easy isn’t it? (R10 / HR-Online)
