How South America managed to drastically reduce infections

Between April and June, the region became the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the highest infection rate in the world. After a few months, the positive cases and deaths have decreased.

Between April and June 2021, the United States and Europe experienced a truce in the pandemic with a reduction in Covid-19 cases. While in that same period, Brazil registered up to 77,000 new cases a day, according to the Our World in Data portal.

Chile had more than 7,000 infections every day, even when it was leading the vaccination process, with almost 50% of the population immunized and even returning to confinement. On the other hand, Ecuador only in one day reported 2,700 positive cases.

Months later the reality is different and now in September there is a drastic decrease in the number of infections, hospitalization and deaths.
