How much snow and rain fell in San Diego in this storm – NBC 7 San Diego (20)

SAN DIEGO – Another multi-day storm drenched San Diego County beginning this week. Fortunately, it did not bring with it rising tides or destructive winds.

That means that instead of counting downed trees and calculating the damage to the city’s infrastructure, we can focus on how much water fell from the sky.
First, let’s take a look at our snow accumulations as of 5am Tuesday. Note that the NWS said that the most up-to-date snowfall reports may be available throughout the day:

Snowfall Totals:

  • Birch Hill Dovecote: 5.5 inches (5,700 ft)
  • Palomar Mountain: 3.5 inches (5,500 ft)
  • Laguna Lodge: 1 inch (6,700 feet)

Here’s a breakdown of two-day rainfall totals (as of 5 a.m. Tuesday) in coastal, valley and mountain communities, according to the National Weather Service in San Diego:

During the month of January San Diego received four times the average amount of rain.

  • Encinitas: .66 inches
  • Saint Mark: .56 inches
  • Sight: .53 inches
  • The Flowers: .5 inches
  • Point Loma: 0.6 inches
  • National City: .66 inches
  • Coast: 0.38 inches
  • Hidden: .77 inches
  • Ramona: .63 inches
  • Valley Center: 0.59 inches
  • Baron: .58 inches
  • Bernardo Ranch: .54 inches
  • Bonsall: .52 inches
  • Santee: 0.55 inch
  • Skyline Ranch: .51 inches
  • Harbison barrel: .59 inches
  • Julian: 1.12 inches
  • Lake Cuyamaca: 1.07 inches
  • Rest: .71 inches
  • Ranch: .64 inches
  • Dovecote: .65 inches

San Diego has done well this rainy season, NWS records show.

From October 1, 2022 through January 30, 2023, 7.54 inches of rain was measured at the San Diego airport, which the NWS calculates as 156% of normal rainfall estimates for that time period. The Ramona airport measured 12.61 inches of rain in the same period, which the NWS says is 187% of the normal amount, and at the Oceanside airport, 9.61 inches was enough for 170% of the normal total.
