Once you reach the edge of the observable universe, you can spend another 4.8 x 10 years to get home, but since there is no Earth to return to – only black holes and frozen star crust will remain – it could go well go on.
As far as we know, the visible boundary of the universe is not the actual boundary of the universe. It is only as far as we can see, because there was no time for the light to reach us from more distant parts of space. There is no reason to believe that space itself ends at some point, but we don’t know how far away it is. This could go on forever. The edges of the visible universe are not the edges of space, only the edges of the map. There is no way to be sure what you will find when you pass.
Make sure you bring extra snacks.
