“A cancer diagnosis not only has an enormous impact on the person affected, but also on their partner, family, friends and other involved parties,” Carma explains. “The dynamics of the partner relationship changes (temporarily) from life companion and love partner to caregiver and cared for. The body undergoes changes as a result of the treatment, and the grief is often experienced in a personal way, which can sometimes create distance. All this can also influence intimacy and sexuality, while these aspects can be essential to maintain connection, comfort each other, provide support and experience joy in life.”
