The University of Houston Cougars are the first to reach the quarterfinal of 2021 March Madness with a 67-61 win over the Oregon State Beavers on Monday night.
The Cougars, second favorites in the Midwest section, could not escape this meeting against the 12th seed. They took a 17-point lead in the first half, going from a superb defensive performance to limit Oregon State to 17 points.
The second half was quite different, as the Beavers chipped away at the Cougars’ lead. Very inclined towards the attack, the vanquished at least gave their opponents a little scare with 44 points.
Marcus Sasser was the most dangerous man on the Houston side with 20 points. He was mostly effective downtown, hitting five of his 13 three-point attempts. His sidekick Quentin Grimes was also pretty good, with 18 points.
The Cougars will wait in the semifinals of this prestigious tournament for the winners of the duel between the Baylor Bears (1st) and the Arkansas Razorbacks (3rd), who play late Monday evening.
