House caught fire after lightning strike



In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday there was in Suriname next to the fire at Fernandes on the BOG, also a third fire, namely a house fire in Powakka.

An uninhabited house on the site of a sawmill on Siparibo Paraweg was on fire this morning. The house is said to have caught fire after a lightning strike and went up in flames.

It concerns a low-rise house that was built in wood with an area of ​​5 by 10 square meters. This property was not connected to the electricity grid and also not insured. Workers suddenly saw a flash of lightning after which they noticed that the building was on fire. They immediately raised the alarm.

The report of the fire was received by the Surinamese fire brigade at 00.02 hours. The firefighters turned out at 00:05 and arrived at the scene at 00:45. The fire was brought under control around 12:48 a.m.

No one was injured.
