Bookings for hotels and other overnight accommodations in the path of totality for the April 8 solar eclipse are up across the nation. With the increasing demand, people are getting creative to secure alternative sleeping arrangements, such as renting mobile tents.
Incredible Demand in Missouri
Missouri, located in the path of Monday’s eclipse, is experiencing particularly high demand. Gregorio Strayhorn, General Manager of the Town House Inn just outside of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, has revealed that their place is completely sold out. Despite raising prices along with other local hotels, they are receiving dozens of calls every day, forcing them to turn down potential guests.
“We’re booked up!” Strayhorn said. He added that people started booking rooms for the eclipse a year in advance, and to their surprise, they received booking requests for the 2024 eclipse as well.

“We are receiving 10 to 15 calls a day that I have to turn down because we don’t have any available rooms,” Strayhorn mentioned, emphasizing the overwhelming demand.
Nationwide Craze
According to Adara, travel bookings within the path of totality have skyrocketed by an astonishing average of 900%. Additionally, some rooms have seen price hikes of almost 250%, as reported by Navan.

Given the shortage of available rooms, people are resorting to alternative options to witness the celestial event without breaking the bank.
Camping With a Twist
For nature enthusiasts, camping presents an affordable choice. However, in an effort to enhance the experience, some are opting for a more luxurious camping alternative. Keegan Graves, the owner of Homestead Camp, offers movable luxury camping options.
“What it typically includes is a real queen bed, a comfortable 10-inch memory foam mattress, as well as table dressers, chairs, and rugs,” disclosed Graves, highlighting the uniqueness of his service.
Graves himself has bookings for the eclipse and plans to witness the cosmic spectacle from one of his luxurious tents.
